Awesome Arthur Ashe Middle School Is 'Keeping It Real' with Honor Roll Students

Summary


Newly appointed principal Mrs. Luwando Wright-Hines made me feel right at home when she told me to "keep it real." That saying could be the impetus that will turn this school around. As I made my way to the cafeteria, I saw how the staff interacted with the students and one could tell right away that Awesome Arthur Ashe Middle School was undergoing a transformation and that the beginning of it had started with 'keeping it real'.

Move on to when interactions happened between students and staff. I noticed that they took on more of a parental scope. I saw 'would be problems' nipped right in the bud with love, firmness and a 'don't go there cause you really don't want me to go there too' approach.

Beaming with pride and bursting with enthusiasm, Principal Hines, with a 'no nonsense' and all smiles demeanor, congratulated all of the Honor Roll students during the assembly. She was partial to the two males who made the Principal's Gold Honor Roll (4.0 G.P.A.), seventh graders Darius Dukes and Alexis Charley.
