After disgraced former Broward Sheriff Ken Jenne pleaded guilty to corruption charges, BSO director of Media Relations Elliot Cohen issued a statement saying the department will "continue to provide the exceptional level of public safety services the community has come to expect from this agency." Let's hope so, but it will be tough, because we are learning some former BSO employees are alleging Jenne began eliminating their jobs in the weeks leading up to his admitted misdeeds and resignation, which could lead to lawsuits. In any event, the department appears to be getting back on track, as at least six people are known to have applied to Gov. [Charlie Crist] seeking the appointment to complete Jenne's term as sheriff. They are Craig Glasser, a former BSO deputy and current Palm Beach County deputy; Scott Israel, police chief of the town of North Bay Village; Philip Sweeting, former Boca Raton deputy police chief; Wiley Thompson III, a former top assistant to former Sheriff Ken Jenne who has filed to run for the job; Bruce Udolf, a former assistant U.S. attorney, and Elijah H. Williams, former BSO attorney who is currently a Broward circuit court judge.
