A joint committee of reference voted on Nov. 19 to recommend that the Legislature extend the life of the Arizona Department of Economic Security by 10 years.

Rep. Pete Hershberger, R-26, said he was impressed by the agency's implementation of recommendations by the Arizona Auditor General's Office and achievements of decreasing the amount of people on welfare by 14,000 since 2003.
