After more than seven decades functioning as separate affiliates of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the Southern Arizona and the Central and Northern Arizona branches merged Oct. 1 to form one statewide organization.

The merger came after about a year of negotiations between the two affiliates, said Rachel Chanes, vice president of community services.
