Summary
The Hezbollah action came less than three weeks after a similar action in the Gaza Strip, when Palestinian militants tunneled into an Israeli military outpost just outside the Gaza border and killed two Israeli soldiers and captured another. Hezbollah activists also distributed leaflets warning parents not to let their children play with pieces of bombs and rockets scattered around the countryside. Nasrallah's first major decision as secretary-general was to shift a movement best known for its attacks against United States and French troops in Lebanon, as well as against Israel toward a more political orientation and run candidates for parliament.
