ADL National Director [Abraham H. Foxman] addressed the conference, praising Mr. [Gianfranco Fini] "for Italy's leadership, courage and stand against anti-Semitism" and calling on European nations to help combat anti-Semitism both in their own nations and abroad, especially in the Middle East. National Chair Barbara B. Baiser also spoke to the conference, and moderated a discussion on monitoring anti-Semitism.

Following the conference, ADL leaders had an audience at the Vatican with Pope John Paul II. National Chair Barbara B. Baiser, left, presented "Visual Prayer for Mutual Hope," a painting by renowned Israeli artist Yaacov Agam, to the Pontiff, as Mr. Foxman looked on.

The conference featured addresses by other leading Italian, European, U.S. and Israeli officials, and sessions on topics such as "Democracy and AntiSemitism," "The Role of Media and Culture" and "Government and International Responses to AntiSemitism."
