Every year, Alaska Business Monthly lists the nominees for Engineer of the Year. This year is no different. There are nine vying for the honor, nominated by associations they belong to such as the Institute of Transportation Engineers or the Society of American Military Engineers. One of this year's nominees will be awarded the 2008 Engineer of the Year Award for Alaska during the 2009 nationwide E-Week Celebration, Feb. 15 to 21. The National Engineers Week Foundation is a formal coalition of more than 100 professional societies, major corporations and government agencies, according to a press release from its Web site. It is "dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering work force by increasing understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers among young students and by promoting pre-college literacy in math and science."
