And Then Some

Summary

"Santa Fe, are you there?" actor [Christian Bale], as paperboy Jack "Cowboy" Kelly, belted out in the 1992 Disney musical Newsies. "Do you swear you won't forget me?"

"You do it one more fucking time and I ain't walking on this set if you're still hired." Bale shouted. "I'm fucking serious. You're a nice guy. You're a nice guy, but that don't fucking cut it when you're bullshitting and fucking around like this on set."

Try this with a car-driving friend: Start from, say, DeVargas Center and see who gets to Cowgirl first. The cyclist will almost certainly win. Or try Trader Joe's to the Second Street Brewery via the Rail Trail. Bike wins again. When you gain some confidence, try racing the No. 2 Santa Fe Trails bus along Cerrillos Road, from the downtown transit center to Santa Fe Place (or vice versa). Feel free to give the bus a head start. There's no hurry. Pace yourself. Stay in the bike lane - and when it ends, keep to the right of the outside lane. (Riding with traffic feels weird at first, but it's ultimately safer - and legal.) Notice that when the bus stops to load and unload, you keep moving. By the time you hit St. Michael's Drive, the bus should be long gone.
