ANCSA corporations: a look at 1991.

Chalk up 1991 as another mixed year for Alaska's Native regional and larger village corporations. However, considering the generally sluggish economy, the news from these uniquely Alaskan companies is surprisingly upbeat.

Nine companies posted gains, with Chugach Alaska Corp. nearly doubling its revenues. Arctic Slope Regional Corp. continued its winning ways, posting a 22 percent revenue gain to widen its already substantial lead as the largest Native firm. However, other companies whose revenues have grown consistently over the years, such as Cook Inlet Region Inc. and Sealaska Corp., dropped last year.

Several Native firms changed top management in 1991 and 1992. Wilson Justin took over as Ahtna's president and CEO from Roy Ewan, Jack Carpenter succeeded at Bering Straits after the death of Lonnie O'Connor, and Hj...
