Summary
The script by Paul Zbyszewski and Craig Rosenberg throws in some complications courtesy of a local gangsta (Don Cheadle) and adds a sexy cop named Sophie (Naomie Harris) for Stan to dally with, as the double dates with Max-Lola and Stan-Sophie provide some unexpected Riccardo-Mertzes dynamics. Still, it's all about marking time until Max makes his move on the gem, as [Brett Ratner] takes full advantage of the ultra-relaxed, sun-baked backdrop. A running gag concerns Max's video rental of To Catch a Thief, Alfred Hitchcock's glossy 1955 caper with Grant as a supposedly retired cat burglar. Ratner's After the Sunset isn't quite in that league, yet [Pierce Brosnan]'s raffish cool is neatly paired with [Woody Harrelson]'s apoplectic Javert-styled chaser, while [Salma Hayek]'s sultry stunner adds more scenic pleasures.
