For the Mayans the pattern of life has been the same for almost 5,000 years, and their calendar reflects the same. The greatest wonder of the Mayan calendar is how accurate it is. In fact, it was the most accurate calendrical system before the invention of the atomic clock. But the Mayan calendar cannot and it was never intended to predict the events of the last 100 years. That there are some individuals today who try to use the Mayan calendar to "confirm" the events of the recent past does not in of itself change the fact that the Mayan calendar and the stories associated with it in the ancient Mayan's stories of the creation of the world confirm what has happened and is happening in our contemporary world. We only have certain individuals who are trying to hammer the recent past into the ancient Mayan texts. Some of these individuals go to great lengths to establish a connection. One example is that some say the Mayan calendar predicted the two world wars. The Mayan prophecies-such as they are-predicted" two catastrophic wars and devastation." This is not the same. In the Mayan days, there were wars fought by almost every single Mayan city state that proved to be devastating in their own terms - not in terms of 20th Century warfare.
