Summary
PORTSMOUTH - John Bennie Jennings Sr., a Chesapeake farmer, passed away in his 96th year at his Portsmouth home, Feb. 27, 2007.
Born April 26, 1911, in the Wallaceton community of old Norfolk County, Bennie grew up on his parents' farm in nearby Gertie and later took over that farm, which was his lifelong love. Most of his years were spent tending the land, the early days with mule and plow. The farm grew over time and he finished his last crop in a tractor equipped with air conditioning and a TV. For a long time, he also logged and operated a sawmill and distillery. Bennie often visited the area country store where, with his infectious laugh and twinkle in his eyes, he met with friends to swap stories and white lies. A master at both, never telling the same tale twice, he loved people and laughter.See the full content of this document
