The construction of Interstate 69 is to begin within a few years, giving residents a much safer and more convenient route to our state capital. That is the bright side of the picture.

However, unless we forestall the detrimental effects that accompany the construction of a highway, there is a looming down side that will probably lead to more urban sprawl, a serious loss of natural areas, more miles of repetitious billboards, more look- alike malls and subdivisions and a loss of valuable farmland.
