Kirk Lippold, commander of the destroyer Cole when it was assaulted by terrorists, went directly from the line of fire into the kind of bureaucratic and legislative cross hairs that would be comic if it weren't also so sad. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg doesn't take kindly to guns showing up illegally in his city from out of state - especially when those firearms fuel crime. That's why the city has filed suit against 15 firearms dealers - including four from Virginia - whose wares have been traced to a total of 500 New York crimes between 1994 and 2001. The Virginia dealers alone supplied guns linked to three homicides and 100 other crimes, according to court papers.
