HERTFORD - Carolyn Louise Rice Baker, 79, of the 100 block of Driftwood Road, died Monday morning, Dec. 26, 2005, at home. Born in Burke, Va., she was the daughter of the late Hervey Guernsey Rice and Ida Louise Carson Rice. She retired as a secretary with the U.S. Department of Defense and was a member of Hertford United Methodist Church.

Verna W. Green

NEWPORT NEWS - Verna W. Green, 90, passed away Dec. 25, 2005. She was born and raised in Danville and was a resident of Newport News since 1942. Mrs. Green was a member of Parkview Baptist Church and taught the Fidelis Sunday School class for 35 years. She was instrumental in establishing a peninsula mission work in the 40s and 50s.

Mae Kenley Savage

CHESAPEAKE - Mae Kenley Savage, 81, of the 4200 block of Nina Drive, was a native of Portsmouth. On Dec. 25, 2005, she went to be with her husband of 59 years, Reginald D. Savage, who died Dec. 15, 2005. Mrs. Savage was a retired registered nurse, who spent many years as a private duty nurse. CHESAPEAKE - Elizabeth Powell Delk Glaus, 93, formerly of Norfolk and Virginia Beach, passed away Dec. 25, 2005. Born in Isle of Wright County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Sarah Crumpler Powell and was the widow of Ralph Delk and Robley W. Glaus. Mrs. Glaus was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach and had retired from Center Shops in the Wards Corner section of Norfolk.

VIRGINIA BEACH - Margaret Emma Brown Eubank went home to be with the Lord Dec. 26, 2005, after a valiant, dignified, lengthy battle with renal cancer. Mrs. Eubank was 79 years old. Born in Huntington, W.Va., Ms. Shy is survived by her mother, Ruby Ratcliff of South Point, Ohio; two daughters, Terressia Megia and husband Conrad of Norfolk and Susan Snitker of Newport News; three sons, Dennis Shy, Alvin Shy and Richard Shy and his wife Shawna, all of Norfolk; five sisters; a brother; and 15 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father, Alvin Ratcliff.

John W. Zmuda Sr.

VIRGINIA BEACH - John Walter Zmuda Sr., 68, passed away Dec. 23, 2005, at his residence on North Pine Grove Road. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., Nov. 20, 1937. After several years of battling cancer, he passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Alice; two brothers, three sisters, two daughters, a son, six grandchildren, a step-grandchild, a great- grandchild, and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

CHESAPEAKE - Sharon Fowlkes, 50, of the 600 block of Quail Ave., passed away Dec. 24, 2005, at Sentara Leigh Hospital. Sharon was born July 11, 1955, to the late Atha and Henry Fowlkes in Norfolk.
