Elizabeth K. Miller

Elizabeth Kathleen (Marsh) Miller, born June 11, 1913, died May 2, 2004, at the Virginia Shore Nursing Facility in Virginia Beach. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn A. Miller. Elizabeth was born in Orange, Va., the oldest of eight children. She and her husband moved to the Norfolk area in the late 1930s. She was well known for her love of animals and the color pink.

George M. Rausch

George Matthew Rausch, 54, of the 7900 block of Bison Ave., died May 2, 2004, in his residence. Born in California, George was employed with Louise Eggleston for over 30 years. He resided for the past two years as a resident of the Hope House.

Willie Mae Dierks

Willie Mae "Billie" Dierks, 83, of the 8000 block of Tidal Road, passed on May 2, 2004, to join her husband and best friend Cmdr. Dl John Dierks, U.S. Navy, retired. Besides her husband, she was also predeceased by her mother, Maude Bumpus; her father, James Higgins; and her brothers, George and Coy Higgins. Born and raised in Tennessee, she was a long term resident of Norfolk. A retired real estate agent, she also served as a Navy nurse during World War II.

Mary W. West

Mary Whitehurst West, 92, went to be with her Lord May 2, 2004, in a local convalescent center. She was a native of Bellhaven, N.C., the daughter of the late Minnie Brown and David Whitehurst and the widow of Dennis West. She was a longtime member of New Hope United Church of Christ and served on its usher board. She is survived by a devoted son, Winston M. Whitehurst Sr. and his wife Eunice of Norfolk; four grandchildren; and 13 great- grandchildren.

Nadean Landrigan

Nadean Landrigan joined our Lord May 1, 2004. Born in Huntington, Ind., on Aug. 3, 1925, she was the daughter of Ivona and Glen Christman. Nadean will be deeply missed by her husband of 49 years, Robert, who resides in Virginia Beach, along with her daughter, Kathy; son- in-law, Paul; and granddaughter, Taylor. Elizabeth Arlee Speck Mackey, 88, went to be with her Lord on May 2, 2004. She died peacefully in her sleep at the Pinewood Inn. She had been a resident of Norfolk for more than 60 years and was a retired Norfolk public school teacher having taught the second grade at Coleman Place Elementary and Ocean View Elementary. Robert Clark Shultz Sr., 82, died April 18, 2004, at his home in Okeechobee, Fla. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy L. Shultz, of Okeechobee, Fla.; a son, Robert C. Shultz II of Okeechobee; a grandson Robert C. Shultz III of Virginia Beach; several nephews and cousins; and a host of friends. He was predeceased by his brother Edward Shultz. Flora Mae Sawyer, 47, passed away April 30, 2004. She was born in Moyock, N.C., to Willie Moye Sr. and Daisy Sally L. Swain. Mary Joann Davenport, 69, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2004. She was born on Sept. 18, 1934, to Cynthia and Arthur White in Louisa, Ky. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Earl Davenport; five children, Cyndi Drew, Debby Cousins, Randy Davenport, Arthur Davenport of Chesapeake and Mary Wilson of Virginia Beach; a stepchild, Tommy Davenport of Chesapeake; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a brother and two sisters.
