Letters

Without Liberty Press how are we going to hear about LGBT issues in the state of Kansas? I know you have already made the decision, but could you reconsider? I wanted to wish everybody at Liberty Press a huge thanks for printing for the last 1 5 years and I wish everybody good luck on future endeavors. Do advertisers not feel that they need to focus on LGBT readers because of blending in, so their advertising dollars are better spent in a media that reaches a wider authence? I don't know. T...

Editorially Speaking

To a large extent both Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre spent a great deal of time, after the Second World War, arguing that agents (a fancy philosophical term meaning human beings - human agency) are what they make of themselves, and the influence of society on human agency. The whole notion of gay rights and gay equality in Occident started some time before the Stonewall riots in the United States, and the political influences of Harvey Milk.

Comments From the Web

Wichita, KS "There have been times that LP has been the ONLY access to GLBT culture that a lot of people have had." - Wichita, KS The Liberty Press has been the connecting link across KS for GLBT folks and it would be a great loss for the community.

A Serious Man

[...] Sy, not Larry, is identified twice in the film as "a serious man." [...] though Larry contemplates doing something that may not be such a good idea, one wants him not to do it, which may be part of the joke/message.

Dick Wannabe

Dick, as he likes to be called, recently attended and competed in a special drag show at the International Two-Spirit gathering in Colorado. When the white man came with Christianity, the two-spirit became "wrong." While we were there, we were asked to do one number for the crowd and there were judges who judged our skills. At the international gathering in Estes Park in September, they decided that if drag kings wanted to participate they should have a separate category to compete in.

Bookends

Leonard is a genuine, likeable man - not one of those handy black characters whose sole purpose is to teach white men how to be human, but just as fallible and down-to-earth as Hap. [...] another new release from Bold Strokes is Ann Laughlin's Veritas ($16.95).

New Film Fishes for Pro-Gay Take On Bible

Minor Details

LGBT people are the scapegoats, and the ballot measures extending marriage equality are lightning rods, for what marriage really means to people in the U.S. Marriage is itself the problem. The symbol is full of mythology represented in that ideal, commercially lucrative marriage ceremony followed by a honeymoon that lasts forever, the intertwining of the two in harmony, and the sex that will become better and better as they grow emotionally closer.

Metropolitan Theatre Company Presents the Most Fabulous (?) Story Ever Told

The show itself is filled with stereotypically ostentatious oneliners, sexy men in jock straps, and enough twinkling Christmas lights to make one believe Clark Griswold himself was brought in as scenic decorator. An unidentified authence member may have put it best when she said: "It makes fun of us, and points out every possible reason why straight people are afraid of us, but damn, it was funny!" Without a doubt, this production company has staying power.
