Rrta Going Green

An expansion of Red Rose Transit Authority's Erick Road site will make the facility "as green as possible," according to RRTA officials. Natural lighting, a geothermal heating and cooling system, eco- friendly materials and a green roof are components of the $7 million project that is expected to get under way this fall.

Learning While Having a Ball ; Sdl Summer School Is Serious Fun

A dozen McCaskey East High School students are enjoying a nine- day summer camp at Millersville University. Since Saturday, the students have been frolicking in the Pucillo Gymnasium pool, lounging in the lobbies and halls of their dorms and basking in the sunshine around MU's pond.

Turning the Page

Today marks the end of a chapter for this newspaper. It does not mark the end of the newspaper. The Lancaster Journal was the newspaper of record from 1799 to 1812 when Lancaster served as capital of Pennsylvania.

Sales Tax Hike Could Aid Libraries

TO THE EDITOR: I saw the article (Intell, June 24) about the mayors' convention and the call for cities to have the ability to raise sales tax to improve services to residents. I believe Lancaster city would gladly support the Lancaster Public Library at the state-recommended $5 per capita rather than at the rate they currently are which is $1.77. If the tax applied to the county, then the Lancaster Library alone would receive an additional $673,440 from its 14 municipalities to operate.

Conveniently Blaming Right Wing

TO THE EDITOR: You put your foot in your mouth with the editorial "Domestic terrorism," (Intell, June 12). In the cheap editorial cartoon at the top of page A10, you have a television screen labeled "nut ball media" with an announcer saying you need two ingredients for domestic terrorism. There is an ugly viewer labeled: Hate with a gun.

Not Always Well-Kept

TO THE EDITOR: Regarding Richard Shaefer's letter ("Cemetery one of best in area," Intell, June 11) stating that Conestoga Memorial Park is the best-kept cemetery in Lancaster County, I'm wondering why it is that every visit I have made there for more than 30 years, I have to take grass trimmers, a small rake and a whisk broom to find my family's plaque?

A Better Option Than Jail

TO THE EDITOR: In my mind's eye, I could see city police Lt. Todd Umstead shaking his head when he said, "She's in jail over $8." The story was about a woman who stole money from a tip jar in a city restaurant and became violent - earning her 20-somethingth trip to jail.

Insulting the Irreligious

TO THE EDITOR: So it seems the Intell believes that insulting the irreligious is an acceptable practice. First, the Saturday religion section now goes by the title, "Faith and Values," as if to imply that one needs to have religious faith in order to have decent values. Then, the "thought for the day" in the June 19 paper was Laurence Sterne's hackneyed quote claiming that "free thinkers are generally those who never think at all."
