Fundraiser Kicks Off On Television Tuesday Wnin Set for Auction
Viewers who tune in to WNIN's Action Auction will see a familiar event wrapped in a new look. The 34th annual event, a fundraiser for Evansville public television and radio, will be broadcast on WNIN-PBS9 from 6-10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and April 17-21. While the live television auction will operate under the regular format, organizers have worked to create a more polished look for the event.
It will be 28 years before the state will again consider a new interchange for Lloyd Expressway and Burkhardt Road, where local objections torpedoed a 2011 state rebuild plan that would have closed all but one nearby entryway to the expressway. The project has been suspended by the Indiana Department of Transportation and moved to its 2035 Transportation Plan. But does that mean the state won't pick it up again before that? Not necessarily.
Are You a `Plodder' or a `Skipper'?
The world is populated by skippers and plodders. And I am afraid - - according to my newly-developed-if-overly-simplified theory -- I popped out of the womb a plodder. Recently, I saw a boy in the office skipping down the hallway. He walked for a bit. Then, for no apparent reason, he began skipping.
Easter Story Actor Says Jesus Saves
Easter is special to Steve Ary for several reasons. The themes of the holiday -- rebirth and hope -- speak to him both as a Christian and someone who has known the dark days of addiction.
Ue Students Soar to New Heights Children's Book About a Special Bird Takes Flight
Megan Merley, 19, can thank a flier in the bathroom of her University of Evansville dorm in December for turning her into a published author and illustrator. Her whimsical $12 book, "Edward, The Non-Mockingbird," deals with a strange little fellow who doesn't want to be like the rest of his family, mimicking the songs of other birds. He wants to sing his own song.
The thick of the state's highway construction season is approaching, and -- as usual --Evansville-area motorists can expect to see their share of orange barrels and detours. A major project promising to slow down the West Side for months is the continuation of the St. Joseph Avenue rebuild. Ragle Inc. of Newburgh submitted the low bid of $10,387,386 to build a five-lane road from Illinois Street to Maryland Street and a four-lane thoroughfare from Maryland to Diamond Avenue.
Highways and Byways a Weekly Photographic Report
As soon as Reed Boeglin, 13, and his brother Jacob Ferguson, 11, got home from school, they kicked off their shoes and ran toward the back of their Third Street home. "You are going to get your socks all dirty," yells their mother, Angie Schneider, from the screen door as they pick up a basketball and dive onto the trampoline.
Holocaust Survivor Finally Is Telling His Story
By age 17, George Salton had survived 10 Nazi concentration camps, endured unspeakable pain and lost his entire family in the Holocaust. For a long time after, he didn't talk much about it.
April a Miserable Month, Thanks to Its Fickle Weather
I didn't do much of anything yesterday afternoon. As is so often the case on Easter Sunday, the temperature was just too cool to be comfortable outside. So I kindled a fire in the fireplace and reclined on the couch, basking in the hearth's radiant warmth. It was quite likely the last fire of the season, the last one until sometime in October when the thermometer again drops into the 20s.

Council Vote Due On Pizza Proposal
A long-delayed vote on controversial rezoning that would sandwich a pizza shop between a Northeast Side subdivision and apartment buildings is scheduled at today's Evansville City Council meeting. After postponements in December and January, the Area Plan Commission voted 5-4 with one abstention to forward William Mullen Jr.'s petition to the council with no recommendation.
Cold Spell Normal for Early April
April is said to be a cruel month, but it all depends upon the point of view. Those who heeded the warnings that 80-degree temperatures are not the norm for April accepted early warmth as a gift and turned out in droves to enjoy an unseasonable taste of spring.
