Pair Arrested in Tennessee Burglary Suspected in Jc Penney Case Here [Corrected 12/03/04]

Two men arrested in Clarksville are being investigated in last month's smash-and-grab jewelry heist from an Eastland Mall department store. Police say methods were the same in the Nov. 14 JC Penney burglary in Evansville as were employed in subsequent hit-and-run burglaries of Penney stores in Elkhart, Ind., and Clarksville.

Ata to Renew Flights to Indy Three Daily Runs to Begin On Jan. 11

ATA Airlines will begin providing three round-trip flights daily between Evansville and Indianapolis starting Jan. 11, becoming the intrastate airline sought for nearly three years by Evansville Regional Airport officials. David Barning isn't giving up on his quest to become the oldest lung transplant patient in the country, even though his name has been moved to the "inactive waiting list" at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla. Barning, 71, is continuing to investigate other transplant programs that might be willing to accept him as a patient, despite his recent bout with skin cancer.

Hoosierrx Campaign Effort Adds 1,000 to Prescription Plan

A recent push at area Bureau of Motor Vehicle branches to get seniors to sign up for a state discount program for prescription drugs netted more than 1,000 new enrollees to the program, Gov. Joe Kernan announced Tuesday. Volunteers ran clinics at BMV branches statewide on Oct. 16 to educate seniors about HoosierRX, a state-run drug discount program. About 276 volunteers participated, including about 160 Indiana Family and Social Services Administration employees.

Commissioner Challenges Bid for Travel Expenses

Vanderburgh County Commissioners President Catherine Fanello questioned why Cheryl Musgrave needs to attend an upcoming meeting of Indiana's county assessors, since Musgrave is about to relinquish that job to become a commissioner. Musgrave, the county assessor for 10 years, was elected commissioner Nov. 2 and will begin her term Jan. 1.

Grandfather Dies in Bus Collision

A 64-year-old grandfather died Monday after his car struck a school bus carrying his grandson in Harrisburg, Ill. The accident happened at 2:45 p.m., and James O. Fark, Harrisburg, was pronounced dead at 4:10 p.m. by the Saline County coroner's office at Harrisburg Medical Center.

In observance of the 17th annual World AIDS Day, Matthew 25 AIDS Services will host a 7 p.m. public candlelight vigil today in Central Park in Henderson, Ky. The event will celebrate the lives of those who are living with the AIDS virus and commemorate those who have died.
