Uninsured Motorist Case Nets $400k in Jackson County

A 59 year-old motorcyclist, who was rear-ended by an uninsured motorist, thrown off his bike and later developed pulmonary emboli as a result of his injuries, has received a $400,000 jury verdict. In William Pinney v. American Family Insurance, heard before Judge Thomas C. Clark in Division 3 of the Jackson County Circuit Court in Kansas City, the plaintiff's attorney originally offered to arbitrate the case with a $125,000 cap but the insurance company was only willing to offer $17,182.
